Belzenickel is coming!

Belzenickelmarkt

"Belzenickelmarkt" is the name of the advent fair of Bobenheim am Berg which is known far beyond the borders of Bobenheim.
It takes place every year on the first weekend of Advent and attracts many visitors. Although this event has a tradition of more than forty years, its appeal remains unbroken. This is thanks to the diverse and very high-quality range of arts and crafts on offer. You can even look over the shoulders of numerous exhibitors as they work.

On Sunday, the little guests will even be surprised by the "real Belzenickel". Accompanied by a few Bobenheim children, he will hand out sweets at the square around the village fountain.

Incidentally, the memory of the "Pälzer Belzenickel" (Palatinate Santa Claus) was the inspiration for Thomas Nast, a caricaturist from Landau in the Palatinate who emigrated to America. From this inspiration, he drew the first Father Christmas with a boozy beard, smoking a pipe and bringing presents. He then became the model for the famous Coca-Cola Santa Claus.

Originally, the Belzenickel was one of the companions of St. Nicholas in Palatinate customs, who also sometimes drew the rod on naughty children, better known in many areas as Knecht Ruprecht (the servant Ruprecht).

Thank goodness all children are well-behaved today!

Bobenheim Bakehouse

The bakehouse in Bobenheim is a beautiful and unique thing. It is located in the old village centre on the "Ochseplatz" in Leiningerstraße. Here you can bake your own bread by appointment and grind the grain for it beforehand, just like in the old days. Baking your own bread in the stone oven is something very special.
