Large vineyards and "Gewanne"
The major vineyards of Weisenheim am Sand are Goldberg and Rosenbuehl. On the bottles, however, the single vineyard designation (Gewann) is increasingly used to better identify the origin.
Single vineyard sites in the north of Weisenheim are Goldberg, Hahnen and Hasenzeile, whereby the single vineyard site Hasenzeile is subdivided into "Am Gottesacker", "Am Burgweg" and "Auf der Hasenzeile".
In the south of the village you will find the single vineyard Weisenheimer Halde and Rosenbuehl, which in turn is subdivided into the vineyards "Auf den Steinen", "Auf dem Altenberg", "Auf dem Kalkstein", "Am Goldberg" and "Am Rosenbuehl".
Rosenbühl
In former times, many wild rose hedges lined the fields. Many vineyards are named after their growth. One slope was called "buehel".
Hasenzeile
Old references such as Hasensaul, Hasensaeule or Hasenseile indicate a hunting boundary or the boundary of a game preserve, which was marked by a stone or wooden pillar. The Weisenheim name actually refers to a hunting boundary. The boundary stone stood until 1977.
Soil type: sandy loam, loamy sand to sand
Halde
Very many field names are formed with the Middle High German word "halde" or "helde", which means "slightly sloping terrain", or "slope".
